How Stylai Uses Artificial Intelligence

Stylai uses artificial intelligence to analyze clothing photos, provide personalized outfit recommendations, optionally analyze a selfie for styling considerations, and create outfit visualizations.
This page explains what information is sent to our AI provider, how that information is used, how long it may be retained, and the choices available to you.
Your consent
Stylai will not send your photos or personal styling information to an AI service unless you first provide your express consent.
When you consent, you agree that the closet-item photos and optional selfie you choose may be securely transmitted to OpenAI to provide Stylai’s AI-assisted features.
You can withdraw your consent at any time in the app by opening Preferences and turning off AI usage. After consent is withdrawn, Stylai will not make any new AI requests involving your information unless you provide consent again.
Withdrawing consent does not affect information that was already processed or temporarily retained under the service provider’s retention policies.
What information may be sent
Depending on the feature you choose to use, Stylai may send the following information to OpenAI:

How the information is used
Closet-item photos
When you request outfit recommendations, a selected closet-item photo is analyzed to identify visible characteristics of the garment or accessory. These may include its general type, color, material, silhouette, and styling details.
Stylai uses this analysis, together with your selected preferences and instructions, to recommend ways to coordinate the item into a complete outfit.
Optional selfies
If you choose to add a selfie, Stylai may analyze visible characteristics relevant to personal styling, such as a complementary color palette and general considerations for colors, necklines, silhouettes, and accessories.
Selfie analysis is optional. It is not used for facial recognition, identity verification, authentication, medical analysis, or determining sensitive personal characteristics.
Your selfie is not published or shared with other Stylai users.
Outfit visualizations
Stylai may generate an original outfit visualization to help illustrate a recommendation. These images are AI-generated concepts and may not depict actual products available for purchase.
Stylai may use AI-assisted web research to identify general fashion trends and styling concepts. Third-party web photographs are not displayed as Stylai outfit results. The generated visualization is based on the user’s garment and a textual description of the recommended outfit.
AI-generated visualizations are identified within the app.
Who processes the information
Stylai uses the OpenAI API to provide its AI-assisted analysis, recommendations, and image-generation features.
Requests are transmitted through Stylai’s server infrastructure hosted by Vercel. This intermediary protects Stylai’s service credentials and relays authorized requests between the app and OpenAI.
Information is transmitted using encrypted HTTPS connections.

Model training and advertising
Stylai does not store or sell your photos or personal styling information.
Stylai does not use or sell your photos or personal styling information for advertising.
Stylai has not opted into allowing OpenAI to use Stylai API inputs or outputs to train or improve OpenAI’s models. OpenAI states that information submitted through its API is not used for model training by default unless the API customer expressly opts in.
Storage and retention
Closet photos, an optional selfie, saved outfits, and styling preferences are stored locally by the Stylai app on your device until you remove them or delete the app, subject to any device backups you control.
Stylai’s server is designed to relay AI requests and does not maintain a permanent library of user photos. Limited technical metadata may be processed for security, fraud prevention, reliability, and troubleshooting.
OpenAI may temporarily retain API inputs and outputs for service operation and abuse monitoring. Under OpenAI’s current standard API policies, this information may generally be retained for up to 30 days, unless a longer period is required by law or a different retention rule applies to a particular API feature.
Generated recommendations and outfit visualizations may be saved locally on your device so that you can view them again.
Managing or deleting your information

If you withdraw consent, local features that do not require AI processing remain available. AI analysis, recommendations, and image generation remain unavailable until you provide consent again.
Deleting locally stored information cannot necessarily recall information already processed or temporarily retained by a service provider. Such information remains subject to the provider’s applicable security, legal, and retention requirements.
Understanding AI results
Artificial-intelligence results can sometimes be inaccurate, incomplete, or unexpected. Outfit recommendations and generated images are provided as creative styling assistance and should be reviewed using your own judgment.
Generated images are conceptual visualizations. They may contain visual inconsistencies and should not be interpreted as photographs of actual people or as representations of specific products, publishers, designers, or retailers.
Stylai is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, fashion publishers, clothing brands, designers, or retailers merely because their services, names, or general fashion concepts may be referenced.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when Stylai’s AI features, service providers, or data-handling practices change. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was most recently updated.
If a change materially affects how your photos or personal information are used, Stylai will provide an appropriate notice and obtain additional consent when required.
